A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

After the euphoria of a very hectic PGCA-IAC Convention, let me thank you for having made it a success. Filipinos have told me that this is the best so far in logistics and talks and workshops. IAC past President Courtland Lee told the participants that this is one of the best IAC Conferences.

You, through your cooperation, participation, and intelligence, have helped boost the Philippines in the eyes of the world. Believe sila sa galing ng Pinoy. Glad that a bond was established, particularly when we seemed to have a fellowship activity as we ended the IAC Conference.

God was really with us all throughout. It did not rain; the traffic College of St. Benilde warned us about did not happen; and most of all, we did not go to Dusit as initially planned, although some of you may have been disappointed. I assure you God led us to St. Scholastica’s since Dusit can hold only 400-450 participants. We were 800 plus.

I thank those of you who suddenly became working group facilitators or workshop resource persons.

I thank the Chapter Presidents and Officers who readily gave up their participation in order to make everyone feel attended to.

I thank the people of St. Scholastica’s College for arranging for the facilities and usherettes, and for effectively ensuring that everything was okay every minute.

I thank the people who donated gifts for prizes and souvenirs for our foreign guests.

I thank CEU and JRU counseling staff and the CEU dancers and St. Scho singers.

I thank the tour guides from among our participants who took care of showing the foreigners what the Philippines is like, outside the conference.
Nothing can show you enough of what the PGCA officials and board members, executive director and secretary have done to make everything a success. You have to be part of us to appreciate the sacrifices, effort, time and energy expended for months. I thank all of them as I end my 2011-2012 term.

If there are people whom I have failed to thank, I beg your kind understanding. There are just so many to thank and my memory may not serve me right.

Thank you for responding to e-mails. But please update your e-mail addresses and phone numbers with us. Please make sure you read our website at least monthly and when there are forthcoming activities, weekly. Facebook can be used too. But one week or so before, we cannot attend to it anymore as we are busy with actual preparations.

We hope we see more of you in other PGCA activities. Please register by the second early bird so that we can guarantee you immediate receipt of your kits and seats. It is difficult to anticipate how many would show up.

I am hoping to succeed in bringing Dr. Gerald Corey, author of many Counseling and Psychotherapy books to the PGCA. He initially said "yes" to me for any period between January and March, but we still have to finalize. We don’t know if his asking price is affordable.

Elsewhere in this website you will find the keynote and plenary talks given by our foreign guests. We are now starting to try uploading handouts more than distributing them during the sessions.

I was too busy to pay attention to all of you on an individual basis during the Convention-Conference. I apologize for this and I hope you understand.

Say prayers for me as I pursue my work as PRB member for psychology and attend to your needs while I am there. Let me share with you again the prayer of Jabez, which has helped me in all my endeavors:

"If you truly bless me, you will expand my territory; your hand will be upon me; you will keep me form harm; and my distress shall cease."

God bless all of us.

Imelda Villar
